Are you a dressmaker, quilter, or knitter? Are you expressing your creativity with fabrics, ribbons and buttons? A shop opened in September last year in Huntingdon which is ready to help you!
The shop, just off St Margaret’s Road, offers a warm comfortable space, not just for buying the items youneed, but for socialising and learning. This is a real community hub, as I could tell by the number of people coming in and chatting to owner Jemma while I was there. Over a cup of coffee Jemma told me that she started crafting with her mum, and, having wanted to be self-employed since she was a youngster, (still only just 30 now!) the two things came together to form ‘Craft It Yourself.’
A selection of the lovely products you can buy are in the photographs. Local crafters rent shelf space to sell the things they have made, from knitted toys and pin cushions to wooden plaques and candle holders, lovely things to buy and to inspire your own creativity. And if you need a helping hand there are classes you can join, coming soon are card making, an up-cycling workshop and sewing a pinafore dress. To join classes you will need to book and there is a charge for them, but for social groups you just turn up and they are free. For information on coming events pick up a leaflet from the shop.
Already Jemma is looking to expand the shop to make more room for the classes and groups and is researching new suppliers all the time. Sirdar wool and yarns will have come on board by the time this article is published.
Jemma says “I’d like to thank the local community and our existing customers for their support and say thank you to my partner and family for all their help, because it really wouldn’t have happened without you.”
